Six Griffin Athletes Named 2026 The EDU Ledger, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars

Fairfax, Va. - (6/4/2026) – In the most recent issue of The EDU Ledger Digital Edition,  the organization announced their annual Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards with six Griffins included among those selected.

The EDU Ledger, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sport Scholar Awards were established to honor undergraduate students who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field. The award was inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, Jr.'s commitment to education as well as his love for the game of tennis. Colleges and universities are invited to participate in this annual awards program by nominating their outstanding sports scholars. In addition to their athletic ability and academic performance, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars demonstrate a commitment to community service and student leadership.

Students named Arthur Ashe Jr.  Sports Scholars must also maintain at least 3.5 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically, and participate in community service.

Headlining this year's Chestnut Hill College honorees was women's basketball player Kaya Mobley.  Mobley was selected as the women's basketball overall sport winner and a first team selection.  Sport winners are based on who is "the most rounded candidate at their community service, academic awards, athletic achievement, and grades."  She was selected the winner among the 45 women's basketball players chosen nationally among all divisions.

Mobley is the first Chestnut Hill College Athlete to be named an Arthur Ashe Je. Sports Scholar  Sports Winner.  She is also just the second athlete from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and first female athlete to be named a sports winner since the Sports Scholar Awards program's inception in 2016.  

Sprint football player Ced  Brown and men's soccer player Jose Ricardo Cuadra  were also named as first team honorees.  Cross country/Track and Field runner Soleil Casseus; softball player Izabella Rodriguez and women's lacrosse player Angel'Lique Lockhart were second team honorees.  This years selection marks the second for Cuadra  who also earned the honor in 2024.

Mobley sports a dual major of Early Education and Special Education. A dean's list student at Chestnut Hill, Kaya has been named to the CACC Academic Honor Roll is every semester since enrolling at the College and was recently inducted into Chi alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society.

The senior guard has worked with the Boys & Girls Club of Easton; SSJ Sponsored MLK Day of Service with/at Norwood Fontbonne Academy; the Camden County Miracle League; Friends of the Wissahickon Community Service Initiative; and Betty Lou's Food Pantry in her hometown.  She has also been involved with student teaching at the Abington YMCA Early Learning Center as well as two elementary schools in the Chestnut Hill area and Springfield Township High School

A Computer and Information Sciences major, Cuadra served as team captain in 2026 but saw limited action due to injuries.  He was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma in 2025 and has earned Dean's list honors in every semester and graduated with honors. The senior defender is also involved in community service activities with his church back home in the Dominican Republic. In addition he took part in various trash pickup initiatives, beach cleanup initiatives and did an internship at Children's hospital of Philadelphia.

Brown, a cybersecurity major, saw action on the Griffins' sprint football team's offensive line during his career.   He's earned Dean's List honors multiple times and the past fall was named to the Collegiate Sprint Football League All Academic Team.  He has served as a resident coordinator, an orientation leader and a student ambassador for the college's admissions office.  He was involved in a service called senior to senior which involved presenting to high school seniors & senior citizens. It was a service program to show the seniors how to not get scammed.

Lockhart sports a dual major of forensic biology and psychology.  She is a three-time CACC all-Academic Team honoree and was selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® women's At-Large team for 2024-25.  Lockhart was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma in 2025 and has earned CACC Academic Honor Roll accolades in each of the last five semesters. Throughout her four years at Chestnut Hill, Lockhart was involved with youth lacrosse activities in the Philadelphia area, back-to-school backpack giveaways, homeless lunch giveaways, organizing food drives and was a volunteer for youth church services.

A biochemistry major, Rodriguez was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma earlier this year and has earned CACC Academic honor Roll and Dean's List accolades in every semester while at Chestnut Hill.  The junior outfielder has volunteered at the Lower Merion Little League to help coach younger players who are hoping to gain a little experience and have some fun playing softball ands has also volunteered along with her teammates at Cradles to Crayons.

Casseus, a sophomore exercise science major has earned Dean's List and CACC Academic Honor roll accolades in every semester at Chestnut hill following her transfer into the school for the spring 2025 semester. Since 2019, she has been a volunteer basketball coach and trainer for a non-profit called Del Riv Youth Sports in Riverside, New jersey.  During the fall and winter preseason, she helps train youth ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade, both girls and boys, in free weekly clinics.
