D'Andrea's Goal Lifts Griffins into a 1-1 Tie with Greyhounds in their Season Opener

Lorenza D'Andrea's second half goal help forge a 1-1 tie for the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team Friday afternoon with Assumption University at victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

The game was the season opener for both teams as their contests scheduled for Thursday were both postponed.

The two teams played a scoreless first half with the Greyhounds out-shooting the Griffins 10-8 (6-4 on goal).  Haley Esposito made six saves in goal in the period.

The Greyhounds struck early in the second half with Natalie Matz launching a long kick that sailed into the upper left portion on the net for a 1-0 Greyhound lead in the 55th minute.

Shots were few and far between for both teams over next 17 minutes with neither team placing on shot on goal until the 73rd minute.   Bryce Westervelt tackled and took the ball away from the Greyhounds offensive player as they were trying to clear the ball out of the box and fed it to D'Andrea who shot it past AU goalkeeper Kaylin Hebert's left side to tie the game at 1-1.

D'Andrea had a shot at another goal in the 80th minute but her attempt hit the left post.  Griffin goalkeeper Ellie Stratz, who started the second half, made three saves in the final 15 minutes to keep the Greyhounds off the board and secure the tie.

For the game, Assumption outshot Chestnut Hill 24-14 (10-6 on net) and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, August 29, 2026 when they will make up Thursday's rained out contest against St. Michael's College at Victory Field.  Kickoff will be at 10:00 a.m.
