The Chestnut Hill College and St. Michael's College Women's Soccer teams finally played their scheduled game Saturday morning after Thursday's storms forced a postponement of the contest. The Purple Knights scored midway through the first half and made it stand as they defeated the Griffins 1-0 at Victory Field.
The Griffins fall to 0-1-1 on the season while the Purple Knights improve to 2-0.
Chestnut Hill goalkeeper Haley Esposito had saved all four of SMC's shots in the first 27:30. The Purple Knights then had a corner kick and scored the only goal of the game on Jules Peterson's shot at the 27:47 mark.
Neither team scored in the second half. Ellie Stratz, who entered the game replacing Esposito around the 30 minute mark made five saves after taking over as goalkeeper.
The Griffins finished the game with six total shots while the Purple Knights had 13. Bryce Westervelt had the Griffins' only shot on goal. Emma Fitzgerald and Luciana D'Andrea had two shots apiece while Lorenza D'Andrea had one.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 when they host Mercy University for a regional contest at Victory Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
