The Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team held their home opener Sunday afternoon, falling to West Liberty University 2-0 at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.
The Griffins fall to 1-1 overall while the Hilltoppers improve to 2-0.
Max Bond took the loss, allowing both goals. Shai'ya Fitzgerald earned the win in net for the Hilltoppers.
Five different players recorded a shot on goal for Chestnut Hill while the team recorded 14 shots overall. Jimmy Paz led the way with four shots while Mohamed Bility and Abdoulaye Kamagate added two apiece while all three had a shot on goal. Emmanuel Sampson and Dane Bodziak rounded out the Griffins' players with shots on goal.
The game was scoreless until there was 90 seconds left in the first half when Chestnut Hill was whistled for a foul within the scoring box, resulting in a penalty kick. WLU's Jasper Newton pushed his kick past Bond for a 1-0 lead.
An unanssisted goal by the Hilltoppers' Leyton Collier in the 87th minute rounded out the scoring.
For the game the Hilltoppers outshot the Griffins 19-4 (eight to five on net). Chestnut Hill recorded seven corner kicks to WLU's five.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Thursday, September 3, 2026 when they host the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown at Victory Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
