The Chestnut Hill College men's Soccer team batted to a 1-1 draw with regionally ranked Pace University Wednesday night at Victory field in Lafayette Hill.
The Griffins are now 1-2-2 on the season while the Setters are now 2-0-2.
In his collegiate debut, Randy Naula-Tito scored Chestnut Hill's only goal. Max Bond made seven save in goal, allowing just one shot to get past him.
The Setters opened the game with four shots (three on goal) in the first five minutes of the half. The Griffins defense withstood the attack from the Setters and slowly but surely the offense started.
Chestnut Hill finally got on the board as the first half was coming to an end. The Griffins' Popalzai Zazai took a free kick and placed the ball right on Naula-Tito's foot whose shot blew past Pace goalkeeper Joe Zweben for the 1-0 lead.
The Griffins took that lead into the second half, but the Setters came out strong, producing five shots over the first 15 minutes in the period. Pace's sixth shot of the second half produced the tying goal as Daniel Santos drove down the left side and put a shot past Bond in the 62nd minute, knotting the score at 1-1.
Chestnut Hill had two great opportunities to break the tie late in the half. Zazai had a header towards the net the Zweben made a great save on in the 77th minute. Kervening Thelistin added a diving header shot in the 84th minutes that Zweben was able to make a diving save on to prevent the goal-ahead goal and the game finished in a 1-1 tie.
For the game, the Setters outshot the Griffins 20-13 (8-6 on net) and had a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks. Zweben finished the night with five saves for the Setters.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, September 12, 2026 when they travel to play Virginia State university in Ettrick, Virginia. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
