The Chestnut Hill College Men's Golf turned in a strong performance in the opening round of the Husky Invitational, hosted by Bloomsburg University sat Frosty Valley Golf Course in Danville, Pennsylvania. The Griffins led the field of eight teams after the first round with a five-over-par team score of 293.
The 293 score ties the school record, set 11 years ago for lowest team score in a single round. Their +5 effort breaks their own record of +7 for lowest round vs. par, set last week at the Vulcan Invitational. Chestnut Hill sits 11 strokes ahead of second place Millersville University, who recorded a team score of 304.
Leading the way for the Griffins were Rogelio Gerena and Hugo Almeida. The two players finished the first round at even par 72 and are tied for first place among the 47 golfers competing. Almeida recorded four birdies and 11 pars while Gerena had 12 pars and added four birdies on the afternoon.
Andrew Brendlinger was tied for third, just one stroke behind the leaders with a score of 73. Brendlinger recorded four birdies and had nine pars during the course of his round. Rounding out the Griffins top four was Austin Pierce. Pierce is currently tied for eighth overall following a round of 76, just four strokes off the leaders. Pierce birdied two holes and recorded pars on ten others.
Keifer Sharman and Trevor Dendler also competed for Chestnut Hill, recording scores of 82 and 86 respectively.
The Griffins will conclude their weekend with the second round of the Husky Invitational on Sunday, September 13, 2026. First tee time for the Griffins players is 11:10 a.m.
