Griffins Shutout Chargers to Win Conference Opener

Lorenza D'Andrea's first half goal provided all the offense the Chestnut hill College women's Soccer team needed as they opened conference play with a 1-0 win over Dominican University Wednesday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.

The win, the Griffins' first of the season improves the team's record to 1-2-2 on the season and 1-0 in league play.  The chargers fall to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in league contests.

Chestnut Hill was pressuring the Charger defense for much of thew first half and finally converted as Emma Fitzgerald sent a cross pass from the right side to D'Andrea who put the ball into the lower left side of the net at the 33:30 mark of the first half. 

Leading 1-0 heading into the second half, the Griffins defense tightened up over the final 45 minutes of action, holding the Chargers without a shot the entire period.  Meanwhile the Chestnut Hill offense was dominating, getting off 15 shots, with seven of them on net but was unable to convert for additional scores.

Haley Esposito earned the win in net and her first shutout of the season. Esposito had two saves.   Esposito's counterpart on the other end of the field, Dominican goalkeeper Liz Rivera took the loss and finished with nine saves.

For the game, the Griffins out shot the chargers 22-2 (10-2 on net) and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, September 19, 2026 when the travel to the University of Bridgeport to take on the Purple Knights.  Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
