Game Recap: Sprint Football |

Limehouse Becomes Griffins' All-Time Rushing Leader as Football Team Defeats Cornell 16-7

Junior running back Xavier Limehouse recorded his second consecutive 100-yard rushing effort and also became the Griffins all-time leading rusher in program history as the Chestnut Hill sprint football team defeated Cornell University 16-7 Saturday evening at Wissahickon High School's Trojan Stadium in Ambler, Pennsylvania

The host Griffins improve to 2-0 on the season while Cornell falls to 0-2.

Limehouse needed 31 yards entering the game to surpass Sef Penson's total 1,316 yards set from 2016-19.  It took the junior running back ten carries to reach the mark, rushing for ten yards on the final play of the half to eclipse the mark and finish the half with 37 yards.

The junior running back went on to finish with 110 yards rushing, bringing his career total to 1,397.

Freshman quarterback Griffin Walter completed nine of 12 passes for 130 yards with one touchdown and one interception.  Tzion Allen caught three passes for 39 yards while Ronnell Wheeler had the longest catch of the day, a 42-yard completion from Walter.

On the defensive side, Amir Jenkins had nine tackles, two for loss and a pass breakup.  Trevon Hodnett had six tackles (1.5 for loss) and two quarterback hurries.  Andre Cancellare and Hunter Oaks each recorded an interception. Riley Stidham also recovered his second fumble of the season late in the fourth quarter.

After a scoreless first quarter the Griffins took over on their own 16 yard line early in the second quarter and used up nearly nine minutes of clock as they drove 84 yards in 12 plays.  Walter completed a one-yard pass to De'Amontae Crosby for the game's first touchdown and a 6-0 CHC lead.

The Griffins increased their lead to 9-0 on their first drive of the third quarter as Brady Reynolds connected on a 35-yard field with 9:25 left.

Cornell finally got on the board  in the fourth quarter as Big Red quarterback Beck Berry found Carson Ciaio in the end zone from eight yards out, making the score 9-7.

Reynolds missed a field goal attempt on the Griffins next possession and let their defense go to work.   Three plays later Stidham recovered a Berry fumble on the Cornell ten yard line giving the Griffins excellent field position. Four plays later Limehouse pounded the ball into the end zone from one yard out for the Griffins' final score.

On Berry's second play after the Griffin touchdown, Oaks picked off a pass at the Cornell 48-yard line with 3:07 left.  The Griffins were able to run out the clock, with Anthony Bland carrying the ball five times.

The sprint football team will return to action on Saturday, October 3, 2026 when they host Navy at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
