Lee Saverio joined the Chestnut Hill College baseball coaching staff prior to the 2019 season after serving three years as an assistant coach for Villanova University (2016-2018).  Saverio’s 33 years of experience as an instructor, assistant coach, and head coach at the professional and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level has elevated the Griffins’ hitting and outfield defense. Saverio previously served as the hitting instructor and third base coach for the Wildcats, while additionally working with the catchers and outfielders.

Previously, Saverio was the hitting coach for Lehigh University (2013-2015) where he mentored the Mountain Hawks offense to a Patriot League-high 39 home runs during the 2015 season, when the team went on to win its second-ever league, make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and play a regional round of the College World Series. Following the season, two of his players were drafted by the Major League Baseball (MLB) teams the New York Yankees and the San Diego Padres. In the previous two seasons (2013-2014), Lehigh University led the Patriot League in batting average (2014) and produced the number one hitter in the league (2013, 2014).

Saverio also has head coach experience at La Salle University (2003-07) and an interim head coach at Saint Joseph’s University (2008) in addition to spending 13 years as head coach at Cheltenham High School. In his head coaching stint with the Explorers, Saverio won 75 games, garnered the Philadelphia Big 5 Team of the Year (2006) award, and won the Liberty Bell Tournament Championship (2006). He won Collegiate Coach of the year in Philadelphia in 2006 following a 20-win season that produced four MLB draft picks.

Prior to beginning his collegiate coaching career, Saverio won over 130 games as head coach at Cheltenham High School (1987-2001). He led his team to the Suburban One Championship in 1997 and his 1998 squad earned the top seed in the district as the #3 ranked team in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Saverio has coaching experience at the Pennsylvania Keystone State Games, the Carpenter Cup and the Mid-Atlantic Baseball Classic. He also coached the Quakertown Blazers in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League for two summers and led the Blazers to a playoff appearance each year. Three of his Blazers went on to sign professional contracts. During his time as a scout with the New York Mets organization, Saverio helped run the pre-draft prospect camps at Citi Field and worked with the Mets top draft choices. He is also the owner and camp director at Total Instructional Baseball Camp.

Saverio played collegiate baseball at Bloomsburg University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education.
