Three-year letter winner, Tommy Magnum '09 joined the Chestnut Hill College coaching staff prior to the 2016-2017 season. Magnum was a two-year captain and highly regarded for his tremendous defensive presence during the program’s transition to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II play.

Magnum transferred to Chestnut Hill College for the 2006-2007 season after a freshman year of competition at Wilkes University. He immediately became the defensive stopper for the Scarlet and Gold, often tasked with guarding the opponent’s best player and filling an integral role in the Griffins’ run to the North East Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship game. Despite losing the title bout, Chestnut Hill College completed their final NCAA Division III season with a program-best 19-9 overall standing and a 14-2 league mark. Â

Magnum took on captain duties in his junior season (2007-2008), appearing in all 27 contests during the program’s first year of NCAA Division II competition. He retained his captain title in his senior season (2008-2009). Magnum currently ranks 20th all-time in games played (64) and 21st all-time in games started (34).

Magnum played his high school basketball at Cardinal Dougherty High School, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was joined in the backcourt by future National Basketball Association (NBA) star Kyle Lowry. During his time at Cardinal Dougherty High School, Magnum helped the Cardinals become the top ranked team in the Philadelphia area and the eighth best team in Pennsylvania, according to the Power-50 State-by-State rankings.

Magnum is currently works for the Philadelphia Partial Program where he counsels children between the ages of 14-16. A 2009 graduate of Chestnut Hill College with a degree in communications, Magnum currently lives in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, with his son, Prince Thomas, and daughter, Royal.
