Biography
FRESHMAN (2011) - Melnychenko had a remarkable rookie season, with 50 goals he was crowned the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Goals-per-Game (GPG) Champion with 3.57 GPG. At season’s end, he was named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Rookie of the Year and earned an Honorable Mention to the All-ECC team with 57 points and a .532 shooting percentage. Melnychenko also led the team in shots (94) and ranked second on the team in ground balls (37). He recorded 11 games with at least three goals, including a six-goal performance in the Griffins 14-13 win over #5 Dowling College on April 23.
SOPHOMORE (2012) – Melnychenko returned to the All-ECC roster as a Second Team honoree in his sophomore season. He finished the season as the ECC's third leading scorer with a team-high 36 goals and he added 12 assists to rank fourth in the league for points with 48. He also recorded 25 ground balls and ten caused turnovers while earning the ECC Player of the Week award on March 13 after a season-high six goals in the Griffins 22-7 victory against American International College (AIC) on March 10. He also earned two mentions on the ECC Weekly Honor Roll (5/2 and 5/8), the second coming after four goals in the season finale victory over C.W Post University, 9-6, on May 5.
JUNIOR (2013) – A 2013 Face-Off Yearbook DII Preseason All-American, Melnychenko surpassed the 100-career goal milestone in 2013 (3/23/2013) and continued to perform as one of the league’s top playmakers with an All-ECC Second Team selection. He totaled 43 points, 25 goals and 18 assists, to go along with 28 ground balls and four caused turnovers. He was recognized as the ECC Player of the Week on March 25 and a member of the ECC Weekly Honor Roll the week prior (3/18/13). He was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) at season’s end.
SENIOR (2015) – After earning an All-East Coast Conference's (ECC) First Team selection and garnering his second team Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, Melnychenko was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America Second Team. He was a late add to the USILA North-South All-Star game, in which he claimed MVP honors, and he finished the season (13GP-13GS) with 43 goals, 14 assists (57 points), 34 ground balls, and ten caused turnovers, to lead the Griffins to their first-ever ECC Championship Tournament appearance. Melnychenko ranked among the top-15 in the ECC in seven statistical categories; goals (43, 3rd), assists (14, T15th), points (57, 6th), man-up goals (11, 2nd), shots (100, 9th), shooting percentage (43-of-100, 43.0%, 14th), and shots-on-goal (71, 6th), and he was a six-time mention on the ECC Weekly Men's Lacrosse Report, earning the league's Player of the Week award on April 21 after recording 12 points, six ground balls, and four caused turnovers in wins over wins over Post University, 20-6 on April 16, and the University of the District of Columbia, 14-6 on April 19. He earned academic recognition on the USILA Scholar All-America Team.
