Biography
PRE-CHC - In 2013, McDermott was named to the All-Central League and All-Delaware County Second Teams after recording a 65% (163 saves/251 shots faced) save percentage as Ridley High School's primary goalkeeper. He is a three-year varsity athlete and as a member of the National Honor Society, he recently graduated in the top 10% of his class. McDermott played his club lacrosse with the HEADstrong, whose national team he recently helped to a Euro Championship in the Lowlands Lacrosse Tournament of Amsterdam, Netherlands.
FRESHMAN (2014) – McDermott appeared in four contests (4GP-0GS) as the Griffins backup goalkeeper. He recorded one ground ball while posting a 9.42 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .595 save percentage. He earned academic recognition on both the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 Chestnut Hill College Athletics Academic Honor Rolls.
SOPHOMORE (2015) – McDermott (13gp-13gs) completed his first season as the starting goalkeeper. He finished third in the East Coast Conference (ECC) in save percentage (53.0) and fifth in both goals-against-average (10.10 GAA) and total saves (134). He was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Week on the April 13th ECC report after recording a combined 17 saves in league wins over Dominican College (W, 11-2 on April 7) and the University of the District of Columbia (W, 15-12 on April 10). McDermott totaled 704:43 minutes and a 6-7 record on a .530 save percentage. He also recorded 21 ground balls and six caused turnovers while earning recognition on the ECC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, the Chestnut Hill College Men’s Lacross All-Academic Team, and the Chestnut Hill College Spring 2015 Athletics Academic Honor Roll.
JUNIOR (2016) – McDermott (8gp-8gs) played a majority of the minutes (454:24) in goal for the Griffins. He accumulated a 2-6 record with 78 saves, an 11.75 goals-against-average (GAA), and a .467 save percentage (Sv%). He was also named to the Chestnut Hill College fall 2015 and spring 2016 Athletics Academic Honor Roll.
SENIOR (2017) – The senior goalkeeper ended his collegiate lacrosse career at Chestnut Hill College collecting an abundance of ECC and national accolades. The backbone of the Griffins' success was their keeper as McDermott finished the regular season ranked third in the nation for saves (138), eighth for save percentage (.603), and 24th in saves-per-game (11.5). He was a four-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week (5/10, 3/27, 3/14, 2/28) and garnered several post-season accolades; including a USILA/Nike Division II All-American Third Team honor, the ECC 2016-2017 Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete award, and a USILA/Nike Division II Scholar All-American laurel. McDermott finished his collegiate career among Chestnut Hill College's top-10 all-time for wins (2nd, 16), goals-against-average (GAA) (5th, 9.92), save percentage (6th, .537), and saves (2nd, 380). He was also named 2017 ECC Goalkeeper of the Year and All-ECC First Team selection, he was one of five All-ECC honorees who kept Chestnut Hill College receiving votes in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national rankings throughout the season.
