Melissa Furey joined the Chestnut Hill College women’s lacrosse coaching staff prior to the 2017 season as an assistant under Head Coach Kate Scattergood. She previously served as Coach Scattergood’s assistant coach at Kutztown University from 2013 to 2017.
As Coach Scattergood’s goalkeeper coach and defensive coordinator, Furey was responsible for the organization and implantation of defensive systems and concepts. She also coordinated all team travel, monitored student-athlete academic success, and assisted in the recruitment of prospective high school student-athletes. Prior to collegiate coaching, Furey was the head coach of the Upper Perkiomen High School Girls’ Lacrosse program from 2007-2013 and an assistant coach for North Penn High School for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Outside of collegiate game, Furey spent a year (2012-2013) as Lacrosse Evolution’s King of Prussia Facility Director, Director of Women’s Lacrosse, and the Director of Women’s Goalie Schools. She also coached for the Ultimate Goal Lacrosse teams of Philadelphia and Berks counties (2014-2018).
Furey graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science from Ursinus College in 2004. There, she played four years of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III lacrosse as a goalkeeper for the Bears.
Aside from coaching, Furey was a health and physical education teacher in the East Penn School District (2010-2011) and at Upper Perkiomen High School (2006-2009). She currently resides in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania.
