Dayter Dawns CACC’s Weekly Softball Report With Honor Roll Mention
New Haven, Conn. – (3/24/2014) – Sophomore right fielder
Courtney Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.) earned a mention of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Softball Report after ending Chestnut Hill College’s second game versus Nyack College early with a sixth-inning, walk-off homerun to right field, 12-4, and bringing home the Griffins first three runs in a 7-5 game-one loss at Post University.
After dropping the opener 4-2, Chestnut Hill College (1-11, 1-3) got revenge in the second game against Nyack College, posting six first-inning runs on the scoreboard in a 12-4, six-inning victory. The Griffins added another run in the second inning, 7-0, but a four-run Warrior fourth inning almost turned the tide, 7-4. Fortunately, senior first baseman Giana Cavallo (Turnersville, Pa.) led off the bottom of the frame with a homerun to centerfield, 8-4, and three batters later sophomore second baseman
Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) doubled in two more Griffins for a 10-4 lead. The opportunity to end the contest early came in the sixth inning, when a Warrior error and a passed ball put Heaton on second base for Dayter’s game-ending long ball.
Dayter provided the power early in first game at Post University, but a late Eagle rally registered a 7-5 win and spurred the home team for a 9-3 win in game two. She homered for two runs in the top of the second inning and singled in a third run to give the Griffins a 3-1 fourth-inning lead over The Eagles. But the Eagles had two-out, two-run rallies in the fourth, 3-3, and sixth innings to lead 5-3 before consecutive seventh-inning singles from sophomore left fielder
Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.), freshman center fielder
Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.), and sophomore catcher
Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) tied the contest for the home team's final at-bat, 5-5. Unfortunately, Griffins succumbed to another two-out Eagle rally as the home team won the opening affair in walk-off fashion, 7-5. Dayter also doubled and scored in game two to finish the week 4-for-8 (.500).
The softball team continues their CACC schedule tomorrow, Sunday, March 23, with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader at Post University.
