Cross Country Runs at Gettysburg College Invitational
Gettysburg, PA – (10/17/2009) – Sophomore Owen Ward (Elkins Park, Pa.) and freshman Alexa Vadala (Bristow, Va.) the led the Chestnut Hill College cross country teams this afternoon at the Gettysburg College Invitational. Ward led the Griffins to 670 points and a 22nd place finish out of 25 teams in the men's eight kilometer race, while Vadala paced the Griffins to 742 points and a 24th place finish out of 28 teams in the women's six kilometer race.
Ward and Vadala each placed among the top 125 in their respective races. Ward crossed at 29:06.86 leading the Chestnut Hill College men with a 109th place finish. Senior Mike Cavanaugh (Quarryville, Pa.) was within a minute of Ward, 29:58.49, but finished 165th in a tight run race. Junior Tassilo Von Gleichen (Wayne, Pa.) was next for the Griffins with a time of 31:42.57, in 252nd. Senior Ryan Spinka (Burlington Township, N.J.) crossed at 34:11.58 (296th) and sophomore Julius Twyman (Coatesville, Pa.) ran a 38:30.67 (311th).
Behind Vadala, freshman Jordan Lyons (Sewell, N.J.) was the only other Griffin to finish among the top 200 women. Vadala was 124th at 27:22.94 while Lyons crossed 193rd at 29:04.55. Junior Brittany Murtha (Mongolia, N.J.) ran a 29:47.07 and finished 212th. Freshman Brittany Hafer (Chalfont, Pa.) ran a 34:50.09 (273rd), senior Colleen Tozer (Wildwood, N.J.) crossed at 38:26.28 (284th) and freshman Christina Squillante (King's Park, N.Y.) was close behind at 38:57.47 (285th).
The cross country team will run next at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Meet on Saturday, October 24. The races will be held on the Belmont Plateau of Fairmont Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
