Bethlehem, PA – (10/2/2009) – The Chestnut Hill College cross country teams each 27th in their respective races today at the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University. The men's team collected 751 points and finished 27th out of 29 teams in the eight kilometer, White Race. The women's team finished with 805 points and placed 27th out of 32 teams in the five kilometer, White Race.
Finishing 100th overall, Sophomore Owen Ward(Elkins Park, Pa.) led the Griffins with a time of 28:20. Senior Mike Cavanaugh(Quarryville, Pa.) was not far behind; he crossed a 28:39 in 118th place. Junior Tassilo Von Gleichen(Wayne, Pa.) ran his best eight kilometer of the season with a time of 31:04, in 170th. Junior Alex Duffy (Perkasie, Pa.) ran a 31:26 and senior Ryan Spinka(Burlington Township, N.J.) completed the race in 33:11, finishing 174th and 189th respectively.
Freshman Theresa Basilica (Fredericksburg, Va.) returned to the lineup and led the women's side with a 124th place finish and a time of 26:01. Freshman Alexa Vadala(Bristow, Va.) was three runners behind (127th) and ran a 26:07. Freshman JJordan Lyons(Sewell, N.J.) and junior Brittany Murtha(Mongolia, N.J.) both finished in under a half hour. Lyons was 166th at 27:32 and Murtha crossed at 28:43 in 184th place. Freshman Christina Squillante(King's Park, N.Y.)
senior Colleen Tozer(Wildwood, N.J.) finished the race 206th (35:15) and 207th (35:20), respectively.
The cross country team runs next at the Belmont Plateau Classic, hosted by Cabrini College on Saturday, October 10. The opening race is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
