Philadelphia, PA – (10/21/2009) – Freshman defensive specialist Bobbie Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA ) kept Chestnut Hill College in competition with Dominican College through much of this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. However, the Lady Chargers improved with each game to defeat the Griffins 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-8). Freshman setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, Cal.) directed the Lady Chargers with a versatile performance.

Chukuntarod opened the match with three straight aces to put Chestnut Hill College (4-20, 0-14) up 3-0 early in the first game. The Lady Chargers quickly narrowed the gap and the conference rivals remained close until the final stretch. On the service of junior defensive specialist Catherine Giordano (Stony Point, N.Y.) and freshman middle blocker Kristen Loney (Pine Bush, N.Y.) the Lady Chargers turned a 20-19 lead into a 25-20 victory. Dominican College (19-8, 13-3) used their momentum to take the final two games 25-9 and 25-8, respectively.

Ranger led the Lady Chargers with seven kills, 22 assists, six digs, and a block. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, N.Y.) shared the team lead with seven kills and also contributed seven digs. Giordano and Loney each spotted three aces. Freshman libero Jordyn Fuller (Keller, Tex.) led the defense with nine digs.

In addition to four aces from Chukuntarod, Chestnut Hill College was led offensively by freshman middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA ) and freshman setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE ). Both finished with three kills; Gallo supplied five assists. Defensively, freshman libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA ) hustled to 14 digs. Chukuntarod made eight digs.

The women's volleyball team will host Mercy College tomorrow, Thursday, October 22, in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match.
