Philadelphia, PA – (10/27/2009) – This evening, Chestnut Hill College hosted the University of the Sciences (USIP) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. The Devils defeated the Griffins 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-17). In the opening game, A late offensive surge for the Devils earned them a 25-17 win. They claimed the second game 25-11, before another late streak in the third game landed them another 25-17 win and the match.

Chestnut Hill College (4-22, 0-15) hung with USIP (9-12, 9-7) through the opening stretch of game one. The Devils held a narrow 16-14 advantage before junior setter Sarah Hickman (Newark, Del.) took over. She spotted two consecutive aces with her first two serves  and directed the offense to a 25-17 win. Junior middle blocker Cady Rich (Shelton, Conn.) killed five balls in the second game to power the Devils to a 25-11 win and a .733 (12K-1E-15TA) hitting percentage in the frame. In the third game, the Devils opened a seven-point lead, 15-8, on the service of junior middle blocker Christine Puschak (Leola, Pa.), before a late Griffin rally. Off the serve, freshman libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA )(Conshohocken, Pa.) cut the deficit to 17-15. Unfortunately, the Devils recovered the momentum with strong team defense and won the final game 25-17.

Hickman totaled 24 assists, five aces, and nine digs to lead the Devils. She helped Rich to a match-high 11 kills. Rich also made six blocks.

Freshman setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE ) provided seven assists and two aces headlining the Griffins' offensive effort. Sophomore setter Katherine Tohanczyn (Hatfield, PA) led the team in kills with four. Defensively, DiGregorio hustled to seven digs.The women's volleyball team welcomes Wilmington University to Sorgenti Arena on Thursday, October 29, for their next CACC match. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
