Philadelphia, PA – (10/5/2009) – Philadelphia University played efficient offense this evening, hitting .327 (41K-9E-98TA) in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-8) defeat of the Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team. Sophomore setter Katherine Tohanczyn (Hatfield, PA) gave a dynamic effort trying to keep the Griffins close, but in the end the Lady Ram attack proved too much in tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match.

Philadelphia University (19-2, 8-1) opened with a .378 (16K-2E-37TA) hitting percentage in the first game to take a 1-0 lead with a 25-14 win. Junior setter Lauren Hoover (New Baltimore, Mich.) facilitated the Lady Rams with seven assists; helping senior outside hitter Nicole Berkstesser (Bridgewater, N.J.) to five kills. The Lady Rams continued to pace play hitting .333 (16K-4E-36TA) in the second game and .240 (9K-3E-25TA) in the third game. Chestnut Hill College (4-14, 0-8) was unable to get much going offensively, but Tohanczyn led the effort with one kill, five assists, and an ace. She also provided seven digs. Supporting her on offense, freshman middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA ) finished with a team-high three kills. Freshman libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA ) hustled to 18 digs to headline the Griffin defense.

The women's volleyball team next welcomes Holy Family University to campus for a 7:00 p.m. CACC match on Thursday, October 8.
