Philadelphia, PA – (11/2/2009) – Chestnut Hill College visited Philadelphia University this evening for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. The Griffins hung with the Lady Rams in the early going, however, Philadelphia University managed to run off with a 25-18 win in the opening game. They followed that with a decisive 25-12 win in game two, before scraping out the third game 25-20 for a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-20) win.

Chestnut Hill College (5-24, 1-17) challenged Philadelphia University (29-5, 16-2) on every serve in the beginning of game one. The Griffins tailed 16-15, before the Lady Rams mounted a late surge to take the opening game 25-18. The Lady Rams carried their momentum into the second game as they quickly built a 21-9 advantage before claiming a 25-12 win. The Griffins did not go away without a fight. They trailed the Lady Rams 10-8 midway through game three, however, Philadelphia University protected their home court and finished off the Griffins with a 25-20 win.

Fueling the Lady Rams, junior setter Lauren Hoover (New Baltimore, Mich.) and sophomore setter Adrienne Stigura (Reading, Pa.) combined for 34 assists. Hoover led the Lady Rams with 20 assists, she also spotted four aces. On the front line, senior middle hitter Molly Malone (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman middle hitter Ellie Edgar (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) benefitted from the play of the Lady Ram setters. Malone totaled nine kills and hit .438 (9K-2E-16TA) in the match, while Edgar added ten kills. They also combined for five blocks to help freshman libero Mary Mancuso (Granby, Mass.) on defense. Mancuso made ten digs.

Chestnut Hill College was led by freshman setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE ) and freshman libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA ) Gallo directed the offense with 12 assists and also helped DiGregorio defensively with eight digs. DiGregorio led the Griffin defense with 13 digs. Freshman middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA ) headlined the attack with six kills.

The women's volleyball team will conclude their 2009 schedule with a 1:00 p.m. home CACC match against Caldwell College on Saturday, November 7.
