Wilmington, DE – (9/12/2009) – Chestnut Hill College was well represented today at the Wilmington University Invitational. The Griffins finished sixth out of 11 in the women's race (175 points) and seventh out of ten in the men's race (187 points). Freshmen Jordan Lyons(Sewell, N.J.) and Alexa Vadala(Bristow, Va.) paced the women's team, finishing 21st (22:51) and 22nd (22:59) respectively. Senior Mike Cavanaugh(Quarryville, Pa.) and sophomore Owen Ward(Elkins Park, Pa.) carried the men's team placing 16th (30:13) and 17th (30:19), respectively.
Junior Brittany Murtha(Mongolia, N.J.) and freshman Brittany Hafer (Chalfont, Pa.) also finished among the top fifty women runners. Murtha crossed at 25:12 (38th) and Hafer was close behind with a time of 26:20 (43rd). Freshman Christina Squillante(King's Park, N.Y.) came in 64th at 31:20, with senior Colleen Tozer(Bayshore, N.Y.) crossing 25 seconds later, 31:45 (65th).
For the men, junior Tassilo Von Gleichen(Wayne, Pa.), junior Alex Duffy (Perkasie, Pa.), and senior Ryan Spinka(Burlington Township, N.J.) all finished in under 40 minutes. Von Gleichen crossed 50th at 33:34. Duffy was 54th at 34:04, and Spinka finished 75th at 38:42.
The cross country team will compete next at the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational on Saturday, September 19. The event is scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. start.
