Carlyle, PA – (9/19/2009) – Sophomore Owen Ward(Elkins Park, Pa.) and freshman Alexa Vadala(Bristow, Va.) led Chestnut Hill College today at the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational. Ward finished 73rd overall (28:56.7) in the men's eight kilometer race (8K), pacing the Griffins to finish 20th out of 24 teams (248 points). Vadala crossed at 25:52.3 in the women's six kilometer (6K) race for 52nd place helping to land the Griffins 19th out of 21 team with 203 points. In doing so she also set a College record in the 6K. No team score was recorded in either four kilometer race (4K), but both the men's and women's team had two runners in competition.
Senior Mike Cavanaugh(Quarryville, Pa.) and junior Tassilo Von Gleichen(Wayne, Pa.) ran with Ward in the men's 8K. Cavanaugh came in 85th with a time of 29:20.7 while Von Gleichen crossed 174th with a time of 34:35.2. Junior Alex Duffy (Perkasie, Pa.) and senior Ryan Spinka(Burlington Township, N.J.) competed in the 4K, finishing 143rd (15:27.5) and 160th (16:36.8) respectively.
Freshman Jordan Lyons(Sewell, N.J.) and junior Brittany Murtha(Mongolia, N.J.) finished back-to-back, 103rd (29:17.9) and 104th (29:21.7) overall to support Vadala in the women's 6K.
Freshman Christina Squillante(King's Park, N.Y.) and senior Colleen Tozer(Bayshore, N.Y.) finished 165th (23:24.7) and 169th (24:00.8, respectively in the women's 4K.
The cross country team will run next at the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University on Friday, October 2.
