Philadelphia, PA – (9/29/2009) – In this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Chestnut Hill College owned a 2-1 lead over the University of the Sciences (USIP) after three games. Defending their home court, the Devils rallied to defeat the Griffins 25-18 and 15-7 in the final two games to earn a 3-2 (25-17, 19-25, 25-27, 25-18, 15-7) win. Junior middle blocker Cady Rich (Shelton, Conn.) led USIP against a balanced Griffin effort.

USIP (4-5, 4-2) took a early 1-0 lead with a 25-17 win in the opening game, but Chestnut Hill College (4-11, 0-5) responded as the Griffins hit .139 (11K-6E-36TA) in the second game and .156 (11K-4E-45TA) in the third to take a 2-1 (25-19, 27-25) advantage. Sophomore middle hitter Madison McGee (Edgewater, MD ) and freshman middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA ) took turns off the sets of sophomore setter Katherine Tohanczyn (Hatfield, PA) and freshman setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE ). McGee led up front with 12 kills; Benson added nine. Tohanczyn (18) and Gallo (12) combined for 30 assists.

The Griffins did all they could do defensively to slow the USIP attack, however the play of Rich and junior setter Sarah Hickman (Newark, Del.) brought the Devils back in the final two games (25-18, 15-7). Rich hit .333 (22K-7E-45TA) individually and led all players with 22 kills. She also made 11 blocks. Hickman provided 45 assists and also chipped in defensively with 16 digs. The Griffins' defense was led by freshman libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA ), freshman defensive specialist Bobbie Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA ) and sophomore defensive specialist Alyssa Miller (East Stroudsburg, PA). DiGregorio made 32 digs and Miller hustled to 12, while Chukuntarod contributed 19 digs and struck seven aces off the serve.

The women's volleyball team visits Wilmington University on Thursday, October 1 for their next CACC match. Opening serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
