Lafayette Hill, PA – (10/14/2010) – In another rainy Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) encounter, the men's soccer team hosted Holy Family University at the Plymouth Whitemarsh Football Stadium. The Griffins led for a little more than 17 minutes in the first half, but the Tigers tied the affair before halftime, 2-2, and eventually won the contest with two second-half scores, 4-2. Junior forward Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) scored his sixth goal of the season while sophomore midfielder Darryl Richardson (Washington Township, NJ) recorded his first collegiate tally.
After Holy Family University (5-6-3, 2-4-2) scored the opening goal at 5:53, Chestnut Hill College (8-5, 5-3) would swing the margin in 23 seconds. Freshman defenseman Ira Woodruff (Philadelphia, PA) put the Tigers ahead 1-0 scoring off the rebound of a blast from senior midfielder Rich Morawski (Philadelphia, PA). At 9:39, Reid scored the first of back-to-back Griffin goals taking a pass from freshman midfielder Chris Wilson (Willow Grove, PA) and setting himself up for a left-footed strike, 1-1. At 10:02 the Griffins scored again, this time sophomore forward Carl Essenthier (Philadelphia, PA) put Richardson one-on-one with the Tiger goalkeeper. Richardson beat junior goalkeeper Mark Ferretti (Voorhees, NJ) for his first collegiate goal and gave the Griffins a 2-1 advantage. Unfortunately, Morawski would score a goal from 25 yards out at 27:36 to knot the contest at 2-2 heading to intermission.
Following halftime, the Tigers controlled the early second-half tempo and they took a 3-2 lead at 61:51. Sophomore midfielder Jeff Wimsey (Philadelphia, PA) settled a lob from freshman defenseman Tom Stackhouse (Warrington, PA) at center pitch and beat sophomore goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) to give the Tigers the upper hand. They would add an insurance tally at 78:51 and win the contest 4-2.
Junior midfielder Colin Wahlen (Wyndmoor, PA) led the Tigers with six shots; he totaled one goal and an assist. Ferretti made seven saves in the win (5-5-2). For Chestnut Hill College, Reid recorded a team-high six shots and Goldstein made eight saves in the loss (8-5).
The men's soccer team travels to Nyack College on Saturday, October 16 for a 2:30 p.m. CACC contest.
