Caldwell, NJ - (11/6/10) – The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team visited Caldwell College this afternoon to conclude their regular season schedule with their final Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match of the year. The Cougars lived up to their league-best 17-2 record with a swift 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-21) defeat of the Griffins.
Caldwell College (21-7, 17-2) slowly established a narrow 11-9 advantage in the opening set, freshmen, middle hitter Mary Markowski (Parkton, MD) and outside hitter Kailey Arlen (Orland Park, IL), kept Chestnut Hill College (5-25, 2-17) on the Cougars heels. Unfortunately, the home team endured to a 25-20 win. The second set started differently with the Cougars sprinting out to a 23-10 lead, before claiming their second point with a 25-12 win behind the trio of senior middle blocker Keesha Francios (Elkins Park, PA), sophomore right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ), and junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH). The Griffins threatened a comeback in third set with a brief 11-9 advantage, but the Cougars frustrated the Griffins down the stretch with superior serving and a strong defense for a match-ending 16-10 run, 25-21.
Francios and Mosher topped the Cougar attack with seven kills apiece; they chipped in defensively as well with six and two blocks, respectively. Roth directed the Cougars offense with 25 assists while sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY) contributed 12 digs to their defensive effort.
Sophomore middle blocker Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) killed six balls and blocks two Cougar strikes to finish as the Griffins top performer. Markowski and Arlen each totaled five kills. Sophomore Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE) supplied 13 assists to the Griffin attack and sophomore libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) captained the defense with 11 digs.
The women's volleyball team finished the 2010 season with a 5-25 overall record and a program best 2-17 CACC standing.
