Griffins Rebound From Opening Defeat to Top Eagles In CACC Match

Philadelphia, PA – (4/17/2010) – Chestnut Hill College earned a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win with a 9-0 defeat of Post University, after taking a 5-4 loss at the hands of Dowling College. The Griffins hosted both the Golden Lions and the Eagles this afternoon, the day's opening match featured two of the East Region's top teams.

 

Chestnut Hill College (13-11, 7-5) completed a season sweep of Post University (2-13, 2-9) with a 9-0 triumph over the Eagles. The Griffins' inspiration came at number one singles, with freshman Joe Boyle (Doylestown, PA) battling for a 7-2 tie breaker win in the second set (7-6). He won the opening set 6-4. The Griffins claimed victory down the singles line-up and with a sweep in doubles play they defeated the Eagles for the second time this season.

 

The Griffins (#7, NCAA DII) spilt individual play with the #8 ranked Golden Lions, but Dowling College (7-3) already possessed a 2-1 lead from doubles action to escape with a victory in today's opening match. Sophomores David Negron (Philadelphia, PA) and Adrian Avena (Vineland, NJ) were the only Griffins to score in doubles, taking the third flight 8-5. The Griffins scored individual victories in the bottom three singles matches. Sophomore Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) won number four singles 6-1, 6-2, freshman John Reading (Phoenixville, PA) took number four singles 6-0, 6-0, and Avena was victorious 6-4, 6-2 at number six singles.

 

The men's tennis team completes their regular season play with a 12:00 p.m. match at East Stroudsburg University tomorrow, Sunday, April 18.
