Griffin Tennis Travels to East Stroudsburg University for Season Finale

Stroudsburg, PA – (4/18/2010) – Then men's and women's tennis teams journeyed to East Stroudsburg University for their final afternoon of regular season competition. Freshman Pat Joson (Old Bridge, NJ) and sophomore David Negron (Philadelphia, PA) each scored individual win for Chestnut Hill College, but the men lost 6-3. The Warriors also won the women's match, 9-0.  

 

Chestnut Hill College (13-12) faced an uphill battle, after East Stroudsburg University (5-13) took two of three doubles matches. The Griffins only doubles win came in the second flight where junior Carson Richter (Lafayette Hill, PA) and sophomore Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) earned victory by injury retirement. The Warriors won four of six singles matches to extend their 2-1 lead to a 6-3 triumph. Joson won number two singles 6-2, 7-6 and Negron took number six singles 6-3, 6-3.

 

The women's team (3-17) trailed 3-0 after doubles play concluded. Senior Erin Andersen (Canton, CT) and freshman Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY) competed at number one singles, but fell 8-4, while freshman Kara Hill and senior Brittany Parker (Lancaster, PA) dropped number two doubles 8-0. The Warriors won number three doubles by default. Andersen had the Griffins' most success in singles play, taking a 6-1, 6-1 loss in the number one match.

 

The men's tennis team will play Philadelphia University in the opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Team Championship Tournament. The Rams will host the match at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20.
