Devils down Men’s Tennis in Non-Conference Encounter

Philadelphia, PA – (9/23/2010) – Fall play continued for the men's tennis team this afternoon, as they hosted the University of the Sciences in a non-conference match. The Griffins took a 2-1 advantage in doubles play with wins in the two bottom flights, unfortunately, the Devils rebounded to take four of six singles matches for the narrow 5-4 victory.

 

Chestnut Hill College (2-2) earned two points in doubles play with wins in the second and third match. Freshman Juan Farah (Caracas, Venezuela) and junior Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) won number two doubles 8-3 while freshmen Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) and Jeramy Solema (Briarwood, NY) scored an 8-1 win at number three doubles.

 

In the end, the match teetered on singles play. The Griffins received individual wins from Ceniceros and Twyman, but the University of the Sciences (1-0) earned all remaining points for the comeback win. Ceniceros won number four singles 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), while Twyman claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at number five singles.

 

The men's tennis team continues their fall schedule with another non-conference match. The Griffins will host Philadelphia University in a 3:00 p.m. match on Friday, October 1.
