Men’s Tennis Travels to Concordia College For CACC Opener

Bronxville, NY – (3/22/2011) – In a meeting of two top-ten, regional teams, #8 Chestnut Hill College visited #1 Concordia College this afternoon for their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener. The Clippers swept both singles and doubles play to defeat the Griffins 9-0. The Griffins challenged in each doubles match, while senior Mario Gutierrez (Malaga, Spain) and junior Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) found the most success in singles play.
 
Chestnut Hill College (5-8, 0-1) gave a fight at both number one and number two doubles. In the top match, freshman Juan Farah (Caracas, Venezuela) and sophomore Patrick Villafuerte Joson (Old Bridge, NJ) battled the #7 ranked doubles team in the nation, freshman Daniele Piludu (Cigliari, Italy) and junior Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan), to an 8-3 defeat. Freshman Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) and Gutierrez fell 8-4 at number two doubles to the #26 nationally ranked doubles team in the nation. Concordia College (8-2, 1-0) won number three doubles 8-1.
 
The Clippers shut the Griffins out at number two and number four singles, 6-0, 6-0. Number three and number six singles went their way as well, 6-0, 6-2. Gutierrez fell to Boldarev, the #14 ranked player in the nation, 6-3, 6-1, at number one singles, while Twyman lasted to a 6-2, 6-2 loss at number five singles.
 
The Chestnut Hill College tennis teams return home to welcome Millersville University to campus on Friday, March 25, for a 3:00 p.m. dual contest.
