Lafayette Hill, PA – (3/28/2011) – Chestnut Hill College welcomed the University of the Sciences (USciences) and Penn State – Abington to Whitemarsh Valley Country Club as the Griffins opened their spring schedule with a round on their home course. The Devils won the match with a team score of 341. The Nittany Lions were five strokes behind, 346, while the Griffins collected no team score with only three eligible golfers participation. Junior Nick Mull (Collingswood, NJ) turned in the Griffins low round with a 90 (+17).
Senior Jason Franck (Morgantown, PA) of University of the Sciences (10-18) and sophomore Nick Ostash (Langhorne, PA) of Penn State – Abington (10-28) tied for the afternoon's top round with scores of 84. USciences edged out the Nittany Lions with depth, as Devils finished four of the top six golfers.
Senior Michael Doherty Jr. (Lowell, MA) and junior Joe Reid (Kingsville, MD) joined Mull in representing Chestnut Hill College (0-2). Doherty shot a 104 and Reid scored a 115. Junior Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) and freshman Nixon Mburu (Winston-Salem, NC) also complete a round, but were not eligible for competition. Reid took 90 stokes and Mburu finished in 110.
The golf team travels to Immaculata University on Tuesday, April 5, for a 12:30 p.m. round in the Immaculata University Invitational.
