Men’s Tennis Returns to CACC Championship Tournament

New Haven, CT – (4/18/2011) – The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team ensured their second consecutive trip to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament with a 9-0 win over Bloomfield College on Saturday, April 16. With a 3-3 league record, the Griffins earned the #4 seed and will therefore travel to Bronxville, New York, to meet #1 Concordia College (NY) for a 3:00 p.m. semifinal match on Tuesday, April 19. The other half of the CACC playoff starts simultaneously; a matchup of #2 Philadelphia University and #3 the University of the Sciences.
 
Chestnut Hill College (9-12, 3-3) has been lead by senior Mario Gutierrez (Malaga, Spain) and a host of first-year performers, most notably freshman Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico). Gutierrez earned a #13 ITA East Regional Ranking for his individual play by posting an 11-9 record at number one singles and Ceniceros recorded, a team-best, 13-6 individual record; he was 11-5 at number four singles. As a team, the duo recorded a 5-5 record at number two doubles.
