Patrick Villafuerte Joson (Old Bridge, NJ) and senior
Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) were a perfect on the day, winning in both singles and doubles formats.
The University of the Sciences (1-1) won the number one doubles matchup, but Chestnut Hill College (1-0) held the advantage heading to singles play with an 8-5 win at number two doubles and a 9-7 victory at number three doubles. Sophomore
Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) and Joson won number two doubles, while senior
Adrian Avena (Vineland, NJ) and Twyman won the third team flight.
In singles play, freshmen
Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) and
Mike Humes (Medford, NJ) led the way with debut victories at number one and number two singles, respectively. Pham took the top individual flight 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 and Humes claimed number two singles 6-4, 6-3. Joson, Twyman, and sophomore
Jeramy Solema (Briarwood, NY) won singles flight four through six to seal the Griffin victory.
The men's tennis team will host their first match of the season when Rider University comes to campus for a 2:30 p.m. contest on Thursday, October 6.
