Griffins Welcome Warriors for CACC Competition

Box Score  Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/27/2012) – Chestnut Hill College welcomed Nyack College to campus for their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match in as many days. The Warriors claimed a 3-0 win (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) edging the Griffins 25-23 in the first two sets and running away with the final set 25-16. Nyack College's senior outside hitter Moana Masaniai (Waipahu, Hawaii) led all participants with 21 kills.
 
Chestnut Hill College (8-20, 4-13) ran out to a 10-4 advantage after the opening serve, but Nyack College (13-12, 10-8) managed to slow the Griffins and rally for an 22-22 tie before taking the set with a 3-1 run, 25-23. The second set was neck-and-neck the whole way. Again the Griffins paced the Warriors and again a final push sent the visiting team to 25-23 victory. The Warriors led the whole way in the third set, posting an 18-10 advantage before securing the match-victory on a 25-16 final.


Masaniai's offensive production was supported by 41 assists from junior setter Brianna Kane (Bethany, Conn.), who also recorded ten digs. The Warrior defense was captained by 22 digs from junior libero Michelle Makela (Cocoa, Fla.) and 17 digs from junior outside hitter Debbie Schendel (Great Falls, Mont.).
 
Junior outside hitter Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.), sophomore right side Kaitlyn Schock (Allentown, Pa.), and freshman middle hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) each killed nine balls to lead the Griffin offense. Senior setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington Del.) supplied 17 assists and sophomore setter Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) offered 13 assists to the trio's production. On defense, DePalma hustled to 16 digs, outside hitter Abby Gruver (Coplay, Pa.) got to 15 digs and junior middle hitter Mary Markowski (Parkton, Md.) made four blocks.
 
The women's volleyball team plays their last CACC road match at Holy Family University on Wednesday, October 31. Opening serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
