Waterbury, CT – (3/16/2012) – The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season got underway for the Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team this afternoon, with a league match at Post University. The Griffins swept doubles play to lead 3-0 heading into singles play, where they completed the shutout with six individual victories, 9-0.
Freshman
Mike Humes (Medford, NJ) and sophomore
Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) walked off the courts with the first point for Chestnut Hill College (4-3, 1-0), winning number two doubles in shutout fashion, 8-0. The Griffins defeated Post University (0-4, 0-1) 8-1 at both number one and number three doubles; sophomore
Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) and senior
Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) won the top team flight, while sophomore
Jeramy Solema (Briarwood, NY) and freshman
Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) teamed to win number three doubles.
The Griffins dominance continued in singles play. Pham dispatched his opponent first, winning number two singles 6-0, 6-0. Humes was next, taking number one singles 6-0, 6-1, and Solema followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six singles. Atri won number five singles 6-1, 6-1 and he was following him off the court was Twyman with a 6-1, 6-2 win at number four singles and Ceniceros, who claimed number three singles 6-2, 6-4.
The men's tennis team continues their weekend in New England with an 11:00 a.m. match at Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, March 17.
