Men’s Tennis Strikes down Spartans

Philadelphia, PA – (3/23/2012) – St. Thomas Aquinas College slowed Chestnut Hill College with a win 9-8 (7-2) win at number three doubles and a 1-6, 7-5, 10-5, win at number six singles, but the Griffins endured the Spartans for a 7-2 win.
 
St. Thomas Aquinas College (5-6) was victorious in the final doubles match, but Chestnut Hill College (5-6) claimed the top two team matches for a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) and senior Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) combined for an 8-1 win at number one doubles, while freshman Mike Humes (Medford, NJ) and sophomore Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) scored an 8-3 win at number two doubles.
 
In singles play, the Griffins earned points at numbers one through five. Humes won number one singles 6-3, 7-5. Pham took number two singles 6-1, 6-2. Ceniceros won number three singles 6-1, 6-1. Twyman claimed number four singles 6-7 (8-10), 7-5, 10-6, and freshman Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) earned the point at number five singles, 6-3, 6-0.
 
The men's tennis team resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule at Caldwell College on Saturday, March 24, with an 11:00 a.m. match.
