Hilton Head, SC – (3/7/2012) – The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team collected another victory on their Hilton Head Spring Trip with a 6-3 win over Catholic University of America this evening. Unfortunately, the Griffins were unable to complete the sweep as the men's side continues to struggle with their early spring opponents with a 5-4 loss to the Cardinals.
The Chestnut Hill College (3-3) men led Catholic University of America (7-0) 2-1 heading to singles play of this evening's match. Unfortunately, the Cardinals were superior as individuals, claiming points at numbers two, three, five and six. Sophomores,
Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) and
Michael Pecoraro (Towson, MD) were responsible for the Griffins singles wins. Pham won number one singles 6-3, 6-3, while Pecoraro battled for victory at number four singles 4-6, 7-5, 10-6. In doubles play, Pham and senior
Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) won number one doubles 8-4, while Pecoraro and sophomore
Jeramy Solema (Briarwood, NY) teamed for an 8-6 win at number two doubles.
The Chestnut Hill College (16-3) women also led 2-1 heading to singles play with juniors
Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) and
Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) winning the number one flight 8-0 while freshman
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, PA) and sophomore
Olivia Stevenson (Philadelphia, PA) won number three doubles 8-4. In singles play, the Griffins were able to ensure victory with wins at numbers one, two, three, and four singles. The men's and women's tennis teams resume play at Hilton Head on Friday, March 9, with a 3:00 p.m. dual match against Shepherd University.
