Sensational Singles Play Pushes Griffins Past Rams

Philadelphia, PA – (4/11/2012) – After dropping all three doubles matches to Philadelphia University, Chestnut Hill College dug deep as individuals to rally for a 5-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory this afternoon. The Griffins won all but number four singles, where senior Julius Twyman (Coatesville, PA) lost 6-4, 6-2. Following the clutch CACC win, the Griffins recognized Twyman as part annual Senior Day traditions.
 
Philadelphia University (8-11, 3-2) came on strong in doubles play, winning number one doubles 8-3, and number three doubles, 8-2, before sweeping the team round with a enduring 9-8 (8-6) win at number two doubles. With the postseason in consideration, Chestnut Hill College (10-9, 4-1) refocused for singles play. Freshman Mike Humes (Medford, NJ) won the top individual 6-1, 6-2 to set the tone. Sophomore Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) followed suit with a 6-3, 6-3 win at number two singles. Sophomore Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) won number three singles 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) claimed number five singles 6-3, 6-4, while sophomore Jeramy Solema (Briarwood, NY) took the six singles flight 6-3, 6-4.
 
A four-year captain, Twyman will finish his collegiate career as the Griffins all-time leader in singles (42-41) and doubles (43-40) victories. He earned CACC All-Conference honors as a sophomore after winning a number two doubles championship with teammate Carson Richter and he is a two-time recipient of the men's tennis coach's award, earning the honor in his freshman and sophomore seasons. As the only senior for either Griffin tennis team, Twyman has served as a role model and dependable leader for his fellow Griffins this year.
 
The men's tennis team concludes their CACC schedule with a 10:00 a.m. match at Bloomfield College on Saturday, April 14.
