Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (9/29/2012) – Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball won the opening set of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at Caldwell College, 25-18, but the Cougars repaid the Griffin victory in the second set, 25-18, before claiming victory 25-13 and 25-12. Chestnut Hill College (6-11, 2-4) carried a narrow lead off the opening serve, but it was when freshman setter
Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) and Biro worked in harmony that the Griffins finished off Caldwell College (11-9, 4-2) in the first set, 25-18. The second set went similar, but in the Cougars favor, 25-18. They used the momentum on their home court to overpower the Griffins in the final two sets 25-13 and 25-12 with team hitting percentages of .286 (15K-3E-42TA) and .333 (12K-3E-27TA).
Three Cougars topped ten kills, including freshman outside hitter Rachel DiLeonardo (Cincinnati, Ohio) who killed 11 balls on her .333 (11K-1E-30TA) hitting percentage. Seniors, right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, N.J.) and outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, Mich.) supported DiLeonardo with ten kills apiece; McDonough also made a team-high 15 digs. Junior setter Lisa Roth (Gilbert, Ariz.) played the point, supplying 40 assists. Additional defense was provided by the Cougars specialists, sophomore Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, N.J.) and senior Maddy Amon (Louisville, Ky.), who dug 14 and 12 balls, respectively.
Biro led the Griffins in kills with nine, but Markowski was more efficient in her attempts and killed eight sets on a .300 (8K-2E-20TA). Both Biro and Markowski made two blocks. Tamsing provided 28 assist for the Griffin offense, which also received eight kills from junior outside hitter
Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.). DePalma also contributed 13 digs to the Griffin defensive effort. Gruver led the Griffins in digs with 16 and freshman libero
Deanna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.) hustled to 13 digs.
The women's volleyball team returns home to host Holy Family University in their next CACC match, which is schedule for a 7:00 p.m. opening serve on Wednesday, October 3.
