Box Score Brookhaven, N.Y. – (10/10/2013) – Limited to two shots by a stingy Dowling College game plan, Chestnut Hill College dropped their second straight non-conference, road decision without registering a goal in tonight's 3-0 loss to the Golden Lions. The home team scored just past the five-minute mark and added insurance scores in 33
rd and 49
th minutes whlie leaving the Griffins with little opportunity to respond.
Dowling College (6-3-1) scored on their very first shot, when junior midfielder Jose Herrera (Sterling, Va.) scored an unassisted goal that skipped off the outstretched finger tips of Chestnut Hill College's (5-5-2) freshman goalkeeper
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) at 5:19, 1-0. The Griffins looked to reply, but struggled to generate offense before falling behind 2-0 deficit when junior forward Chris Posillico (Deer Park, N.Y.) found graduate forward Kariym Balthazar (Point Fortin, Trinidad & Tobago) for a strike to the bottom left corner of the Griffin goal at 32:47, 2-0. Senior defenseman
Darius Gbunblee (Philadelphia, Pa.) issued the Griffins first retaliation less the seven minutes later, 39:41, but his shot never reached goal, deflecting wide off a Golden Lion defender and leaving the Griffins behind a two-goal halftime deficit. Unfortunately, the second half mirrored the first with the Golden Lions scoring on their first attempt of the period. Freshman midfielder Alex Hailes (England) provided the second insurance goal with a successful 30-yard strike at 48:26, 3-0. The Griffins only other shot came in the 80
th minute, when a take from freshman forward
Charles O'Connell (Secaucus, N.J.) was redirected wide of the Golden Lion goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Friedl (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) collected the Golden Lion win (6-3-1), but was relieved by classmate Daniel Jensen (Malmo, Sweden) with 17 minutes to play (17:04). Jackson totaled five saves in the loss (5-4-1) for the Griffins.
The men's soccer team resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Saturday, October 12, when they visit Concordia College (NY) for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
