Box Score Bronxville, N.Y. – (10/12/2013) – Concordia College (NY) made good on their few chances, but Chestnut Hill College was overpowering in a 4-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory behind the energetic play of senior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) and a host of fellow Griffins. Pizarro scored twice for an early lead, junior midfielder Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) deposited the game-winner, and sophomore midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) added the insurance in the Griffins third overall, and league, win of the season.

The home side initiated play as Concordia College (0-7, 0-7) fired their contest's fist two shots. They scored on the second,  grabbing a quick 1-0 advantage at 3:24 when freshman forward Amanda Scherb (Kings Park, N.Y.) sent senior defender Jodian Braham (Jamaica, West Indies) on a successful breakaway, 1-0. But the Clipper lead would only hold for four minutes as Pizarro converted a perfectly organized assault that included well played advances; to the corner by Spinuzza, and cross from senior midfielder Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.) that found Pizarro at 7:39, 1-1. Following their first goal, Chestnut Hill College (3-7-1, 3-3-1) kept the pressure on as Pizarro struck again less than five minutes later, scoring on an unassisted rebound strike at 12:07, 2-1.

The Griffins held their advantage with heavy possession, holding the Clippers shotless through halftime and until the home team tied the contest on another breakaway transfer between junior midfielder Momoka Yoshitake (Oita-shi, Japan) and senior forward Alexis Balyeat (Elkhart, Ind.) at 70:55, 2-2. Fortunately, the Griffins relentless barrage of shots did not keep the affair even for long. At 78:11, Williams deposited the eventual game-winning goal when she scored a rebound strike off an initial try from junior midfielder Morgan Fell (Boyertown, Pa.), 3-2. Less than five minutes later Spinuzza supplied some insurance with her first goal of the season coming off a tick-tack-toe combination with junior midfielder Victoria Fioretti (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) and Pizarro at 83:59, 4-2. The final six minutes passed without a reply from the Clippers, who remain winless on the year.

The Clippers scored on two of their three shots with Braham leading their effort. Her offensive was complimented by a sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Forlini (Yonkers, N.Y.) who made 11 saves in the loss (0-7).

Pizarro totaled six shots and six others recorded more than one attempt at the Clipper goal in the Griffins 32-3 shot advantage. Junior goalkeeper Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) recorded one save in the victory (3-7-1).

The women's soccer team will continue their CACC schedule at Wilmington University on Tuesday, October 15, when they visit the Wildcats for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
