10/16/2013 12:49:00 AM

Box Score Newark, Del. – (10/15/2013) – Chestnut Hill College scored the only goal for the first half and the first three scores overall, but it was Wilmington University that came away with the 4-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win after scoring twice in the final ten minutes of regulation and depositing the game-winner at 104:18. Senior forward Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) netted the first Griffins tally 43 seconds before intermission and after it was senior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) and senior midfielder Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.) pushing the Griffins to a 3-0 lead by the 72-minute mark.

Wilmington University (5-6-1, 5-3-1) came on late, recovering from a 3-0 Chestnut Hill College (3-8-1, 3-4-1) advantage with goals in the 78th, 85th, and 90th minute to force overtime. The Wildcats took the only two shots of the extra time. They scored on the second attempt when a corner kick restart found its way to senior midfielder Jordan Hoesli-Atkins (Middlesex, England) for the game-winning-goal. It was Hoesli-Atkins who sparked the Wildcat comeback at 77:56, finding the foot of senior midfielder Jenna Quaranta (Baltimore, Md.) after a long carry down the left side of the pitch, 3-1. Quaranta scored again at 84:27, this time touching a pass from senior midfielder Rachel Burley (Kingsville, Md.) to bring the deficit to one, 3-2. The game-tying goal came in the frantic final minute with freshman midfielder Sara Eggert (Hamilton, N.J.) locating freshman midfielder Kim Richer (Shamong, N.J.) at the right post with a long serve from the left side at 89:12, 3-3. The first over time went by scoreless and the second extra frame was headed the same way until Hoesli-Atkins ended a scramble in front of the net and the contest with a scoring strike in the 105th-minute.

Richer led the Wildcats with four shots. In goal, junior Julia Brown (Medford, N.J.) totaled seven saves while earning the win (5-5-1).

The Griffins held the upper hand at halftime thanks to DiGiovanni intercepting a Wildcat clear and scoring her sixth goal of the year coming at 44:57. Just 15 minutes into the second half (60:35), it was Pizarro that extended the Griffins advantage to 2-0, squaring up a strike from six yards out after a scramble in the Wildcat box. The third Griffin goal came at 71:29, when a bad McShane turned the Wildcat defense over and scored with a low kick to the near corner. Pizarro's four shots topped the Griffins 14-shot effort while junior goalkeeper Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) totaled two saves in the loss (3-8-1).

The women's soccer team returns to Victory Field #1 on Saturday, October 19, to host Nyack College and honor their graduating in annual Senior Day festivities.
