Griffins Schock Lightning For CACC Win

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/17/2013) – With back-to-back 25-12 wins in the match's first two sets; Chestnut Hill College looked to make quick work of Goldey-Beacom College in tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition. The Lightning delayed the Griffins victory until the fourth set as they rallied for a 26-24 third-set win before falling to the home team in the in a 25-15 set-final, 3-1 (25-12, 25-12, 24-26, 25-15).
 
Chestnut Hill College (7-14, 5-5) took the first two sets without surrendering the lead. Drew spread the ball around in the opening frame and with her teammates hitting .370 (12K-2E-27TA) in the set the Griffins were able to take gain the advantage with a 25-12 win, 1-0. Goldey-Beacom College (4-15, 0-11) tied the second set three times, at 1-1, 2-2, and 3-3, before giving way to junior right side Kaitlyn Schock (Allentown, Pa.) and sophomore middle hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.), who powered the Griffin offense in another 25-12 win, 2-0. In the highly-competitive third set, the Griffins paced the Lightning to a 23-19 lead, before allowing the visitors to shock them with a comeback 26-24 win, 2-1. Fortunately, the Griffins rediscovered their focus in the fourth set with a deciding 25-15 win, 3-21.
 
Junior middle hitter Kadi McCoy (Dallastown, Pa.) killed 13 points, assisted on 12, and hustled to ten digs as the Lightning's top performer. She was supported by 18 assists from senior opposite Roni Peters (Loenardtown, Md.) and four double-digit dig efforts. Junior libero Niki Recoveur (Wilmington, Del.) led the group with 17.
 
Schock and Biro headlined a team effort that also included major contributions from senior outside hitter Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.), senior middle hitter Mary Markowski (Parkton, Md.), freshman outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.), and the directing play of freshman setter Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.) and freshman libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.). Schock went for a season-high 13 kills on a .419 (13K-0E-31TA) hitting percentage and made three blocks while Biro was the other Griffin in double-digit strikes with ten kills on a .318 (10K-3E-22TA) hitting clip. Drew totaled 45 assists while Trabosh recorded 24 digs.
 
The women's volleyball team takes to the road for their next CACC match; a 1:00 p.m. contest at Nyack College on Saturday, October 19.
