Griffins Wear Down Lady Chargers, End Recent CACC Skid

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/2/2013) – Chestnut Hill College brought their six-match losing skid to a close with today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Dominican College. The Griffins and the defending league championships split the first two sets by 25-19 finals, before the home side came on strong in the final two frames, edging the Lady Chargers in a 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23) triumph. Freshman outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) was the Griffins top point producer with 14 kills, an ace, and three blocks.
 
Chestnut Hill College (8-20, 6-11) separated in the opening set, pulling away from Dominican College (6-21, 6-11) after a 6-6 tie under the direction of freshman setter Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.). The Griffin strikers hit .282 (13K-2E-39TA) in the first set, outscoring the Lady Chargers 19-13 the rest of the way, 25-19, 1-0. The Lady Chargers returned the favor in the second set, 1-1 (25-19), but their run was short lived as the Griffins stayed a few points ahead in a 25-22 win, 2-1. Play remained tight up through 11-11 in the fourth set, but with the 2-1 lead in hand it was the Griffins who endured to seal the deal with a 25-23 win, 3-1.
 
Freshman McKenzie John (Lafayette, La.) and sophomore outside hitter Tori Dexter (Selah, Wash.) were the Lady Chargers lead hitters with 21 and 18 kills, respectively. John produced 24.0 points, adding three aces and ten digs to her team-high kill total while Dexter added an ace, a team-high 19 digs, and a block. Sophomore setter Amanda Heilstein (Holtsville, N.Y.) and freshman setter Kera Dexter (Selah, Wash.) split 38 assists.
 
McBride and senior outside hitter Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.) each finished the match with 14 kills and 13 digs, but McBride's additional ace and three blocks left her as the Griffins top performer. Drew totaled 40 assists, six digs, and two blocks, while freshman libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) captained the Griffins defensive effort with 31 digs.
 
The women's volleyball team will conclude their home schedule and honor their senior class on Wednesday, November 6, when they host Holy Family University in a 7:00 p.m. CACC match.
