11/3/2013 11:55:00 AM

New Haven, Conn. – (10/20/2013) – Playing their best against the league's top talent, Chestnut Hill College scored wins over the top four teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) playoff field. With a 6-5-1 CACC standing, the Griffins enter the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament as the #6 seed opposite #3 Philadelphia University. All of the Opening Round contests will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4, at the homes of the higher seeds.

Perennial CACC power, Post University earned the tournament's top seed for the third season in a row, suffering their only league loss, 11-1, at the hands of the Griffins on September 15, 1-0. The 2012 CACC Champions, Dominican College claim the second seed with an 8-3-1 conference record. Philadelphia University (7-4-1) holds the heads-up tiebreaker over Wilmington University (7-4-1) to grab the #3 seed and leave the Wildcats in the #4 spot with the final right to a home field advantage. Their designated competition will consist of #5 Concordia College (NY) (6-5-1), #6 Chestnut Hill College (6-5-1), #7 Holy Family University (6-6), and #8 Bloomfield College (6-6). Semifinal and the league Championship will take place on respectively on Wednesday, November 6, and Saturday, November 9, at Wilmington University and will be available for view in a live game cast on CACC.TV.

Chestnut Hill College opened their CACC schedule on September 7 with a disappointing double overtime outcome against the league's newest program, Georgian Court University, 2-1. The loss inspired the Griffins to 1-0 victory over, then, #12 Post University. Unfortunately, the Griffins next CACC win did not come until September 24, when they began a three-game run of league wins against #13 Wilmington University, 3-0, Dominican College, 2-0, and Caldwell College, 2-0. Then at 4-4-1 in the league, the Griffins earned a #9 ranking in the East Region from National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), before heading downhill in a five-game losing streak. But the Griffins managed to conclude their season with a 6-5-1 league record after winning two of their final three CACC contests; including a spirited 2-0 season finale victory over Philadelphia University on October 30.

With a hat-trick in the Griffins 3-1 victory at Goldey-Beacom College on October 22, freshman forward Charles O'Connell (Secaucus, N.J.) finished the season as the Griffins top point producer with a team-high 12 points on six goals. Behind him, the Griffins roster offered a balanced output with 11 others recording at least a point. Junior forward Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia) served as the playmaker with eight points on two goals and four assists, while freshman goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) was the last line behind a strong Griffin defense; finishing second in the league for save percentage (.862), third in goals-against-average (0.92), fourth in saves (94), and tied for tied for fourth in goals against (15). He was a four-time mention on the CACC Weekly Report, winning Rookie of the Week honors on September 30 and October 7.
