Box Score Bloomfield, N.J. - (12/7/2013) – The Griffins and Deacons tapped all their resources in today's overtime Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) battle as Chestnut Hill College and Bloomfield College needed all the help they could find to settle the affair. After ten lead changes and six ties, the Deacons came away as winners on their home court, 79-76. Four Griffins finished in double figures; off the bench, freshman guard
Billy Cassidy (Primos, Pa.) found his shot with a team-high 18 points on a 5-of-11 (.455 FG%) shooting effort and a 5-of-7 (.718) performance at the free throw line.
Bloomfield College (4-5, 3-1) led for most of the opening half, but Chestnut Hill College (1-8, 0-3) was never far behind and trailed by only five points at the break, 39-34. With the start of the second half came
Jakeem Bogans (Philadelphia, Pa.), as the senior guard entered the fray with the game at 44-36 (16:54) and promptly scored ten consecutive points to deliver the Griffins to a one point advantage, 46-45 (13:07). From there, freshman forward
Carson Murphy (Mohawk, N.Y.) extended the Griffin lead to five points, 50-45 (11:37), before the home team rallied just enough to pace the Griffins to a 66-66 regulation tie. In overtime, the Deacons snagged the advantage again, this time forging a narrow a five-point lead, 71-66 (3:36), before Cassidy caught fire. He first connected on a three pointer and then buried two free throws to help cut the spread to 73-71 (2:37) and a little over a minute later (1:27), graduate guard
Taylor Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.) put the Griffins ahead, 74-73, with a clutch three point basket. Unfortunately, an ill-timed foul put the Deacons on the line. Converting four straight free throws, the Deacons found the cushion they needed to claim the victory, 79-76.
Sophomore forward Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) topped the Deacons side of the box score with 21 points on a 9-of-14 (.643 FG%) shooting effort and a 2-of-4 (.500) showing at the free throw line. He also grabbed eight rebounds and provided two blocks and two steals to the Deacon defense. Senior guard Dondre Whitmore (Trenton, N.J.) and senior forward Mike Williams (Trenton, N.J.) chipped in with six rebounds apiece and 17 points and 11 points, respectively, but senior forward Kevin Udo (West Orange, N.J.) served a larger purpose with eight points, 16 rebounds, five blocks, and an assist.
Cassidy's clout was supported by 16 points, five rebounds, and two assists from junior guard
Christian Walck (Lancaster, Pa.), 13 points, eight rebounds, and an assist from Trevisan, and Bogans' 12-point outburst. Murphy finished with six points, six rebounds, two assists, and three blocks.
The men's basketball team will take a brief break before resuming their CACC schedule on Wednesday, December 18, with an 8:00 p.m. contest at Goldey-Beacom College.
