Box Score 2 Bronxville, N.Y. – (4/10/2013) – Amidst a pitcher's duel, each side manufactured a run before a seventh inning homer provided Concordia College (NY) a 2-1 win in the opener of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. The Clippers defeated Chestnut Hill College in game two as well, edging out the Griffins 6-4 despite four errors and second-inning solo shot from sophomore second baseman
Taylor Steen (New Egypt, N.J.), his first homerun of the season.
In game two, Steen led off the Chestnut Hill College (11-19, 4-8) second at-bat with a homerun to right field, 1-0. Senior shortstop
Joseph Crane (Churchville, Pa.) followed with a single to left center and advanced to second base on a error by the Concordia College (11-16-1, 6-5) catcher. Another Clipper error allowed senior left fielder
Joseph Mullin (Warrington, Pa.) to reach and after a double steal and a strikeout, senior catcher
Timothy DiMonte (Downingtown, Pa.) provided the sacrifice fly for the second Griffin run, 2-0. A balk, a single, a walk, and a third Clipper error allowed to more Griffins to cross for the 4-0 advantage. Unfortunately, the Clippers chipped away at the deficit, scoring two runs in the third inning, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and in the sixth to pull away for a 6-4 win. Steen and junior center fielder
Desmond Lites (Philadelphia, Pa.) both totaled two hits. Graduate pitcher
Micah Winterstein (Philadelphia, Pa.) allowed one hit and struck out four in 2.1 innings of scoreless relief at the end of the affair.
Freshman pitcher Mitchell Hillert (Brooklyn, N.Y.) battled sophomore pitcher
Dominic Raia III (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the opener. His side was the first on the scoreboard, producing a run in the second inning with a lead-off double, a one-out single, and a sacrifice fly from freshman designated hitter Vincent Capone-Frio (Yonkers, N.Y.), 1-0. The Griffin answer came in the fourth inning with a lead-off single from freshman designated hitter
Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.), a sacrifice bunt from junior third baseman
Raymond Puskar (Green Lane, Pa.), and a run-scoring Steen single. Raia held up his end of the pitcher's duel until the sixth inning as the Clippers took a 2-1 lead with a lead-off homerun from sophomore third baseman Mike Manganiello (Levittown, N.Y.). They knocked Raia from the game by the second out of the frame, but Winterstein ensured the Clippers did not stray far with 1.2 inning of scoreless work out of the Griffin bullpen. Unfortunately, Hillert's effort went the distance as the Clipper hurler allowed one run on five hits and a walk. He struck out five in the win (2-1).
