Madison McBride (Long Beach, Ca.) was the star of the Griffins first day of play at the West Chester University Tournament, recording double-doubles in the win over Glenville State College, 3-2 (25-15, 25-14, 24-26, 21-25, 15-10), and the loss to the Assumption College 3-1 (18-25, 28-26, 24-26, 18-25).
In victory over Glenville State University (2-3), Chestnut Hill College (1-5) was fueled by junior setter
Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) who feed 48 assists to the attack of McBride, senior outside hitter
Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.), sophomore middle hitter
Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.), and senior middle hitter
Mary Markowski (Parkton, Md.). McBride finished the match with 12 kills, three aces, 11 digs, and a block. DePalma scored nine kills, five aces, and ten digs. Biro totaled ten kills and four blocks while Markowski offered nine kills and five blocks.
Assumption College (2-2) won in the first set of the second match, 25-18, but the Griffins rallied for a 28-26 win in the second set to even the score, 1-1. Unfortunately, it was the Greyhounds who would come out on top with wins of 26-24 and 25-18. McBride recorded 16 kills and 18 digs. She benefitted from the play of freshman setter
Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.), who supplied 32 assists, nine digs, and a block. Freshman libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) hustled to 22 digs.
The women's volleyball team continues their time at the West Chester University Tournament tomorrow, Saturday, September 14, with matches against Stonehill College at 12:00 p.m. and the hosting Golden Rams at 4:00 p.m.
