McLeod Throw Translates to Tie In Overtime Fray with Golden Falcons

Box Score Rutherford, N.J. – (9/21/2013) – The benefactor of a first-half own goal, Chestnut Hill College owned a one-goal lead until the final five minutes of tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Felician College. The Golden Falcons used a heavy second-half shot advantage, 14-5, to even the affair on a late corner kick despite Griffins best defensive efforts and the goalkeeping of freshman James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.).
 
Junior forward Channing Couillard (Jacksonville, Fla.) took the first of two first-half shots for Chestnut Hill College (2-3-1, 1-1-1), but the Griffins would get their early advantage on Felician College (0-4-1, 0-2-1) own goal. Freshman midfielder Matthew McLeod (Sewell, N.J.) launched a throw-in deep into the Golden Falcon defense and found goal by ricocheting the ball off a mass off competing heads, 1-0. Aiming to make up for their misplay, the Golden Falcons pressured the Griffins will a healthy dose of offense, peppering Jackson, but not breaking through until the 84th minute (83:46) when an overwhelming Golden Falcon shot advantage evened the score on a long, corner serve from junior defenseman Alex Jean (Notre Dame de Londres, France). He found junior defenseman Kabari Palmer (Kingston, Jamaica) who struck a ball for a game-tying goal, 1-1. Play evened out in the extra frames, but neither side found goal as the stalemate lasted through for the full 110:00.
 
Senior midfielder Azedine Maazouzi (Brussels, Belgium) was the focus of the Golden Falcon rally; He took five of the home side's 20 shots, while Palmer scored on one of his three. Senior goalkeeper Daniel Wroblewski (Brick, N.J.) made six saves in the tie (0-4-1).
 
Couillard and senior midfielder Hernan Angulo (Lima, Peru) each made three attempts at goal for the Griffins. Jackson totaled six saves (2-2).
 
The men's soccer team will begin a four-game home stand with a 4:00 p.m. Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Tuesday, September 24.
