Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/24/2013) – The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team fell just shy of their evening's goal as they came up on the short side of a dramatic 3-2 (23-25, 25-14, 25-14, 20-25, 14-16) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) decision with Philadelphia University. The Griffins gave the Lady Rams a fight from the opening serve behind record performances from freshman setter Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.) and freshman Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.).

Philadelphia University (4-4, 3-0) looked to set the tone for the evening in the opening set, but Chestnut Hill College (3-8, 1-2) fought hard in front of the home crowd and slowed the Lady Rams to an unexpected 25-23 win, 1-0. The visitors were even more stunned after Drew and McBride powered the Griffins to back-to-back 25-14 wins in the second and third frames, 2-1. Delaying the match for one more frame, the Lady Rams managed to regain their composure with a 25-20 win in the fourth stanza, 2-2. Now anxious to put the Lady Rams away the Griffins captured a late 12-10 advantage before being forced into a timeout at 13-13. The score knotted again at 14-14 before a strike from sophomore outside hitter Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill.) and a Griffin attack error, 16-14, settled the affair in the Lady Rams favor, 3-2.

The Lady Rams had four players finish with double-digit kills off the two-headed feed of senior setter Heater Martin (Leola, Pa.), 29 assists, and sophomore setter Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.), 22 assists. Manley finished with ten kills and a team-high 29 digs while junior middle hitter Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C.) topped the Lady Rams offensive production with 15 kills, five digs, and block.

Drew's 64 assists and McBride's 26 kills established new program records for the Griffins. Drew added 11 digs to her impressive performance while McBride completed her seventh double-double with 18 digs. Senior outside hitter Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.) offered her fifth double-double with 16 kills and 24 digs while senior middle hitter Mary Markowski (Parkton, Md.) made her presence felt with 12 kills and four blocks. Joining Markowski on the defensive front, senior defensive specialist Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, Fla.) and freshman libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) supplied 17 and 25 digs, respectively.

The women's volleyball team welcomes on and all in attendance come as their favorite superhero on Friday, September 27, when they host Caldwell College in a 5:00 p.m. CACC match.
