Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (9/30/2013) – The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team enjoyed a break from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, but not from stiff competition as the Griffins battled East Stroudsburg University through 110 minutes of scoreless play this evening, 0-0 (2OT). Each side saw several opportunities to establish superiority, but with countless shots sailing high or wide, a strong Griffin defensive effort only left five saves for freshman goalkeeper
Travis Powers (Hewitt, N.J.).
An evenly played opening half gave way to an East Stroudsburg University heavy second half, yet the contest remained scoreless with Powers making the only two saves he needed to as the Chestnut Hill College (4-3-2) defense continuously denied East Stroudsburg University (0-6-2) a decent shot on goal. The Griffins had their chances in regulation as well with several corner kicks and restarts missing their execution marks. In the first overtime period, it was Warriors sophomore goalkeeper Callum Hampson (Tunbridge Wells, England) who met each Griffin attack with a save, including back-to-back stops on twin assaults from senior forward
Mushe Wamulume (Media, Pa.) and freshman forward
Charles O'Connell (Secaucus, N.J.) 91:17. Still goalless after 100 minutes, the Griffins and Warriors went head-to-head for ten more in the second extra frame. There, tension rose as each side drew yellow cards while fighting for a victorious final. Unfortunately, neither side would earn a win, leaving the affair in a 0-0 stalemate.
Graduate forward Nemanja Nikolic (Kragujevac, Serbia) topped the Warriors shot totals with six strikes toward goal while freshman midfielder Ben Roda (Emmaus, Pa.) offered five shots. In goal, Hampson made ten saves (0-6-2).
O'Connell took six shots, while Wamulume, junior forward
Channing Couillard (Jacksonville, Fla.), junior forward
Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia), and freshman defenseman
Nils Fussen (Aachen, Germany) accounted for a majority of the Griffins additional attempts of the Warrior goal. Powers totaled five saves (4-4-1)
The men's soccer team returns to their CACC schedule but bring their four-game home stand to a close on Saturday, October 5, when they host Caldwell College in an 11:00 a.m. contest.
